Earth Wind & Fire lead singer and eight-time Grammy winner Philip Bailey takes you behind the scenes of one of the most successful and influential groups in music history. Bailey shares from his revealing and heartfelt memoir, Shining Star: Braving the Elements of Earth Wind & Fire, and WDAS’ Patty Jackson interviews the music legend about the group’s rise to global fame and Bailey’s own professional and spiritual journey. The Mother Bethel AME choir performs a special tribute and Philip Bailey sings live. This is the true story of what happens when real life exceeds your dreams.

About Philip Bailey

Philip Bailey is an American R&B, soul, gospel and funk singer, songwriter, percussionist, and actor, best known as one of the longtime members of the band Earth, Wind & Fire. Noted for his four-octave vocal range and distinctive falsetto register, Bailey has won eight Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame for his work with Earth Wind & Fire.

Bailey has also released several solo albums including Chinese Wall (1985), which received a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male, and featured the global hit, "Easy Lover", a duet with Phil Collins. "Easy Lover" won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Overall Performance in a Video in 1985 and was Grammy nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals.

About Patty Jackson

The voice is warm...soulful and sweet! Patty Jackson, born and raised in South Philadelphia, is a thirty-two year radio veteran. Patty’s radio career has taken her from WSSJ in Camden, New Jersey, to the country station WXTU, then to Philadelphia’s Hip Hop station WUSL, and the classic R&B format known as WDAS-FM. After spending one year co-hosting mornings at WIOQ, Patty returned to her home at WDAS. Patty’s mid-day program, her Cafe 105, and 4-1-1 features are all considered mandatory to Philadelphia’s adult radio listeners! She can also be heard across the country via iHeartRadio.

Patty is currently the midday host at 'DAS-FM. In addition, she hosts “The Wide Wonderful World of Butter” oldies program every Sunday night. Patty’s entertainment reporting has earned her the title of entertainment writer for the Philadelphia Tribune. Jackson’s voice is undeniably the female adult voice of the Philadelphia market!
